Bally’s Casino History

Jumer’s Casino and Hotel has a long history intrinsic to Rock Island and all of Chicagoland.

It all started with D. James Jumer’s restaurant and hotel businesses in the 1960s. In 1988, Jumer constructed the Peoria Boatworks Complex that included a boat with up to 400 visitors. Then, in 1991, riverboat casinos began operating in the Quad Cities. A year later, the Rock Island Boatworks, featuring Casino Rock Island and owned by D. James Jumer, was in business.

In 2008, Jumer opened a new facility and rebranded Casino Rock Island into Jumer’s Casino. In 2011, the casino was sold to Delaware North Companies, a hospitality and food-service entity that owns Boston’s TD Garden and other important sporting venues.

Acquisition by Bally’s

In October 2020, Delaware North announced that Jumer’s Casino and Hotel was sold to Bally’s Corporation in a $120 million deal. The deal closed in June 2021, following regulatory procedures. After acquiring Jumer’s Casino, Bally’s is in possession of 14 casinos across 10 states, a horse racetrack and 13 OTB licenses in Colorado. This acquisition became official in September 2021.

Along with the acquisition, the Illinois Gaming Board issued a sports betting license to the facility in June 2021.

Bally’s CEO George Papanier said:

“As the latest step in our ongoing portfolio diversification strategy, we are excited to complete our acquisition of Jumer’s and enter the rapidly growing Illinois gaming market. The closing provides Bally’s with the potential to capitalize on several lucrative sports betting opportunities, which we expect will drive revenue and cash flow growth. We are pleased to welcome Jumer’s into the Bally’s family, and look forward to leveraging our expertise to enhance the property’s operations.”
