Construction Starts On DraftKings Sportsbook At Wrigley Field

The new DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field is finally under construction. The home of the Chicago Cubs will be the first stadium in Illinois to feature its own sportsbook.

With the beam signing in the rearview, gamblers in the state will have a new Illinois sports betting option before long.

The Cubs are one of the most well-known franchises in all of the professional sports. Now the team is looking to capitalize on the popularity even more.

One of the oldest ballparks in Major League Baseball doesn’t have a ton of shiny new features, but that will change once Wrigley’s sportsbook opens for business in 2023.

The arena’s DraftKings Sportsbook is under construction on the corner of Sheffield Avenue and Addison Street. When it opens, the sportsbook will be able to hold up to 1,000 gamblers.

The area will feature a 2,000-square-foot video screen to display all sorts of stats, scores and Cubs betting odds.

Even if you’re not betting on the ballpark’s team, then you’ll still be able to enjoy the area. DraftKings Sportsbook will be open all year long, not just during the MLB season.

According to Cubs Presidents of Business Operations Crane Kenney, that year-round business will be one of the biggest assets for the sportsbook.

“Today’s beam signing ceremony marks a significant milestone with longtime partner DraftKings to create a one-of-a-kind soprtsbook that will enhance the gameday environment for fans and visitors to Wrigley Field. With our opening planned for 2023, we’re excited to add a year-round entertainment venue to campus.”

Competing with Wrigleyville

Wrigleyville has all sorts of bars and restaurants for Cubs fans to visit before games. In other words, Wrigley Field’s new sportsbook will be in direct competition with all of those businesses.

DraftKings has a few special features in mind that it hopes will be enough to draw in those game-day dollars.

First and foremost, the sportsbook is obviously banking on the fact that you can bet on sports from within its walls.

Wrigley’s sportsbook will feature a traditional walk-up counter for betting, plus kiosks for gamblers looking to skip the lines.

DraftKings is also building a special Jim Beam-branded bar to serve the area.

The bar will also serve food to visitors. The American-style selections will be similar to what you can find inside the traditional areas of Wrigley. That will make it a great option for gamblers who want ballpark food when it’s not a Cubs game day.

Regardless of the new features, opening a sportsbook is the next chapter for one of the most historic ballparks in baseball. Wrigley Field, like other stadiums around the country, is embracing gambling expansion at the perfect time.
