The betting dominoes in Illinois are starting to fall.

Despite still awaiting regulatory authorization, Argosy Casino Alton will start accepting sports bets on March 16 in the interim.

Michael Barker, Director of Media Relations at Argosy Casino, announced in an interview with KPLR 11 that they plan to open on Monday at noon, just in time for Selection Sunday. The grand opening will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith placing the inaugural bet. Although the details of the bet are still unknown, it will not involve baseball. Despite the uncertainty, Barker expressed excitement about the event and the presence of Ozzie Smith.

It is expected that Argosy will surpass all other sportsbooks in Illinois when it comes to legal betting.

St. Louis is nearby.

The recently opened retail sportsbook at Argosy, just a short 35-minute drive from Downtown St. Louis, is expected to draw a large number of wagers from Missouri residents.

Barker believes that our reintroduction of sports betting will draw people back to Argosy and across the river. As the first casino in the region to pioneer the riverboat casino industry nearly 30 years ago, we are excited to be the first to offer sports betting once again. This will provide an exciting and unique experience for our customers, allowing them to place bets on games while they play. For example, you can now bet on the second quarter of a St. Louis BattleHawks game if you notice a trend.

Argosy Casino is prepared to begin play.

Argosy Casino has spent decades getting ready for the legalization of sports betting.

Barker claims that around 65 gambling machines have been swapped out for sports betting shops. Additionally, Argosy has renovated its well-liked sports club.

Barker told KPLR 11 that Hops House has always been located at the entrance, offering a vibrant sports bar experience. The establishment is equipped with around 38 TVs, varying in size from 65 to 86 inches, ensuring that there is constant action visible from every angle. Additionally, patrons will now have the opportunity to place bets on the events unfolding on screen.

If you would rather bet in person, our tellers are here to help you. Alternatively, you can choose from 14 different restaurants for self-service options.

Timing is crucial.

The aim for Midwest games that have obtained approval to legally offer sports betting has always been to be up and running in time for March Madness.

Michigan will soon accept its first legal bet, while Illinois kicked off its sports betting operations on Monday with BetRivers Des Plaines taking the inaugural wager in the Prairie State.

Baker finds the initial two weeks of March Madness enjoyable, even without any bets placed. He excitedly describes the thrill of witnessing the first 32 games unfold in just two days, anticipating a truly wild experience.
