Pritzker Extends Mobile Registration; Could Be Green Light For More IL Sportsbooks

Governor JB Pritzker has extended his executive order to allow mobile sports betting registration in Illinois.

The executive order will be in effect until at least November 14, meaning Illinois sports bettors will not be required to go to a casino to sign up for an online sports betting account for another month.

The decision was made based on recent events in Illinois, where the state saw its highest seven-day rolling average of COVID-19 cases to date. The number surged to 2,642 on October 12.

This is what renewal means, right here.

Illinois is expected to have strong October and November profit numbers.

In August, the Illinois sports betting market saw a total handle of $140 million, despite online registration not being allowed until August 21st. BetRivers was the sole mobile sportsbook operating throughout the entire month.

We have not yet received the September figures, but they are expected to be very high. With mobile registration available for the entire month, five online sportsbooks in operation, and football betting back in play, we anticipate the handle to exceed $200 million.

Pritzker has announced that remote registration will be extended for an additional month, leading to high expectations for October and November projections.

Sportsbooks in Illinois made around $7.2 million in revenue in August, with expectations of reaching $10 million or more in each of the following three revenue reports.

The state sees higher tax revenue thanks to the increased profits of the sportsbooks. Given the health risks involved, it would have been challenging for Pritzker to justify a return to in-person registration.

opportunity to advance through smart registration

In August, BetRivers was the leading force in the market.

FanDuel generated about $118 million in revenue, accounting for 84% of Illinois’s total. FanDuel began operating on August 28, while DraftKings did not become available until August 21.

However, that market share is still absurd.

However, the profit report for September may provide valuable insights.

DraftKings and FanDuel will have wrapped up a month of mobile registration, while PointsBet and William Hill launched their online platforms in mid-September.

Since DraftKings launched, BetRivers has found it beneficial to continue requiring in-person registration.

The August revenue report shows a notable increase in customer acquisition during June and July. The retail sportsbook, BetRivers, is conveniently located in Des Plaines, close to Chicago.

Conversely, games in downstate have partnered with DraftKings and FanDuel.

Allowing smart membership each day increases the chances of success for sportsbooks other than BetRivers.

With a substantial lead, BetRivers remains extremely popular in Illinois, regardless of the result of in-person registration.

Was fresh operators join the battle?

Due to the high demand for the service, it has been more than a month since the introduction of a new betting platform in Illinois.

The recent extension from Pritzker & Co. offers added incentive for aspiring operators to start their businesses.

Unibet, backed by parent company Penn National Gaming and with market access through Argosy Casino Alton, is the frontrunner to be the next launch in Illinois.

This seems like the perfect chance for Barstool, but they are not planning to expand to any new states other than Michigan until 2021.

BetMGM has the potential to enter the business, but the method of entry remains uncertain.
