Illinois maintained its top position in sports wagering in November 2020, posting a record-breaking control of approximately $449.2 million for the second consecutive month, securing a four-month streak as the leading state in the US.

The Prairie State ranked behind only New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania for the month.

In November, IL sportsbooks generated around $41 million in profit, on par with the $42.4 million earned in October.

The state generated around $6 million in tax revenue from sports betting.

DraftKings once again took the lead in individual handle, collecting $166,000,000 in bets for the month.

BetRivers held onto the second spot in handle, with FanDuel, PointsBet, and William Hill rounding out the top five.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker shut down all 10 of the state’s casinos in mid-November, leading to decreased retail numbers.

However, Pritzker’s decision to suspend the in-person registration requirement has significantly boosted the success of online sports betting.

College sporting events made up 25% of the handle, while professional sports events made up 75% of it.

A new bill that could remove the ban on betting on in-state schools may lead to higher wagering rates in the future.

December is shaping up to be an exciting month, as college basketball games will be played every day and the NBA will return on December 22nd.

Even though Illinois is currently enjoying success in sports betting, it seems like we are only at the beginning of our journey.

Profits for November, per casino

Here are the income figures for the sportsbook in November:

Sportsbook Handle
DraftKings $ 166,000,000
BetRivers $ 133,2 million
FanDuel 133.5 million dollars
PointsBet 26. 2 million
Theodore Hill $ 6. 2 million
Alton Argosy Casino( retail only ) $ 2. 4 million
Joliet at the Hollywood Casino( retail only ) $936,575
Aurora Hollywood Casino( retail only ) $780,295

What is the main conclusion to draw from this situation? PointsBet experienced a significant decline after revealing a loss of $60.7 million in October.

In the IL industry, FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetRivers have all exceeded their October results, firmly establishing themselves as the top three players in the market.

Barstool will visit Illinois when?

We anticipate that the record will continue to increase in the weeks ahead.

Play Illinois has found out that Barstool plans to launch in Illinois before March Madness, while Unibet and BetMGM Illinois are still awaiting approval. It is unclear if any other sportsbooks will be ready in time for Super Bowl betting.

Once the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) gives approval, the final two can begin.

At the moment, there are no upcoming launches in Illinois. But stay tuned for Bally’s, as they are anticipated to introduce sports betting at Jumer’s Casino & Hotel soon.

Despite Illinois experiencing success, the sportsbook market has not reached its saturation point.

In states like Colorado, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Illinois, there are more than five online options currently available.

Illinois sports gambling control: The$ 1 billion fee

Given the current pace, it makes sense to start thinking about when Illinois might reach a monthly sports betting handle of $1 billion.

For the fourth month in a row, New Jersey, the leader in the US, broke its own record by taking in $931.6 million in bets in November.

If New York doesn’t legalize it soon, New Jersey will inevitably hit the $1 billion mark.

New Jersey has had online sports betting since 2018, giving it a major edge over Illinois. In contrast, Illinois did not establish its first online casino until June, when there was little activity.

It may take some time for the Prairie State to reach the $1 billion milestone, but progress is steadily being achieved. The positive momentum carried on into November.
