According to its social media accounts, Barstool Sports is set to open a bar in the River North neighborhood of Chicago.

Barstool Sportsbook now resides in Illinois. Although this bar is not officially a retail sportsbook or a registration location, it’s likely to offer a similar experience and gain popularity.

PlayPennsylvania exclusively revealed the location of the Barstool sports bar in Philadelphia, and now, we also have the exact location of the upcoming Chicago establishment.

The location will be 18 W Hubbard St. in River North, previously known as Henry’s Swing Club, according to a Barstool Chicago Instagram story. The area is popular for foot traffic in the city of Chicago.

It is not yet known when the sporting club became available. During a recent revenue visit, Jay Snowden, the President and CEO of Penn National Gaming, stated:

We aim to inaugurate the first two independent sports bars under the Barstool brand in Philadelphia and Chicago in the following months. This move signifies the growth of our omni-channel approach towards more specialized, flexible, and highly esteemed locations.

What is the state of Barstool Sportsbook in Illinois?

In the last two earnings reports, Barstool has overtaken PointsBet in Illinois, securing its position as the fourth leading sportsbook in the state. In October alone, Barstool reported a handle of $69.8 million.

Its monthly handle lags significantly behind DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetRivers. To provide perspective, DraftKings Sportsbook recorded a handle of $315.3 million in October.

PointsBet also surpassed Barstool in terms of monthly income.

Despite this, Barstool hasn’t gotten positive coverage from Illinois. Earlier in April, Governor JB Pritzker reinstated in-person registration, just three weeks after Barstool made its debut on March 11. Consequently, Barstool has had significantly less time to register individuals electronically compared to its competitors.

It’s easy to imagine Barstool climbing the profits rankings when online registration resumes. This is expected to happen in the coming weeks.

By March, online membership should be back.

HB 3136 was approved by the Illinois House and Senate as indicated in the slide. This act sets a deadline for in-person registration of March 5, 2022.

Additionally, three unidentified operators have applied for online-only sports betting licenses. Should the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) grant a license prior to March 5, it will result in a reinstatement of remote registration.

However, according to previous timelines, we should know that the IGB is not expected to dispute a license before that time.

When mobile registration returns, the sports betting market in Illinois will undergo a significant transformation. The number of sportsbooks will increase substantially, Barstool’s popularity will surge, and there is even the potential for a $1 billion handle month this year.

Despite all its twists and turns, it’s hard not to be optimistic about the future of gambling activities in IL.
