New Illinois Bettors Mostly Taking A Swing At Golf Wagers

In June, BetRivers introduced its mobile product in Illinois. Currently, it stands as the only mobile sportsbook available in the state. Thanks to Gov. JB Pritzker’s executive order, which indefinitely suspended the need for in-person registration, BetRivers Illinois successfully capitalized on this opportunity.

Another authorized operator, It & rsquo, is currently competing to launch their product in time for a potentially packed late July sports calendar. But what are the residents of Illinois currently placing their bets on?

The final product predominantly features football and sports. BetRivers offers an iOS smartphone app, although it is currently unavailable. However, bettors can access the betting site via their phone’s browser using a third-party GeoComply app named GeoGuard.

What the IL runners are betting on

Despite our lack of control quantities, we are cognizant of the activities and teams with the highest betting percentage. The figures from Illinois were disclosed on Sunday, July 5.

Sport/League % of the entire Wagering Volume

Spain’s La Liga in sports 12.55%
Italy’s sporting Serie A 10.21%

sport in the English Premier League 4.31%
NASCAR Cup Line in Motorsports 2.98%
Football: South Korea’s KBO League 2.70%
Primeira Liga of Portugal in sporting 2.17%

The following percentages pertain to all betting activities, not just leagues:

Sport % of the entire Wagering Volume

BetRivers provided data

According to BetRivers, 35% of all bets placed next weekend, which includes bets from Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Jersey, and Indiana, were on the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The tournament was won by the betting favorite, Bryson DeChambeau (+ 600 ).

The situation of Illinois in relation to another position

Except for Illinois and Indiana, the main distinctions when examining data from each state are table tennis and solid positioning. Russian ping pong, one of the few winners in 2020, was ranked among the top 10 in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. In fact, it was the most heavily wagered league on Sunday in Colorado, according to BetRivers.

Why can’t you find it in the Illinois rankings? Simply because it’s not offered. Concerns about integrity led the Indiana Gaming Commission to remove Russian ping-pong from their offerings last month. Although the Illinois Gaming Board hasn’t officially commented on the matter, they may have similar reasons.

In the forthcoming quarter, what does change?

The NBA is expected to commence on July 30, while the NHL is looking at an August 1 start. Meanwhile, MLB has its kick-off scheduled for July 23. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the state of sports, the NFL is planning to start its training camp on July 28. If preseason games occur, they could potentially stimulate interest in betting. A 2019 ESPN story highlighted that NFL preseason games often garner more betting than regular-season MLB games, a fact that professional bettors appreciate.

The Illinois betting industry is likely to witness an eventful few weeks and months. Currently, BetRivers might be the only online product available, but this scenario is expected to change shortly. DraftKings has recently collaborated with Casino Queen to evade the 18-month restriction for mobile-only books. This provides a strong incentive for them to launch in the Illinois market soon.

Here are five additional activities with four-year licenses for learning:

  • Casino Argosy in Alton
  • Grand Victoria Casino
  • Hollywood’s Aurora Casino
  • Joliet’s Hollywood Casino
  • Par-A-Ball Resort Casino

Argosy had a short stint of its brick-and-mortar sportsbook before all casino activities were halted due to COVID-19. Since then, it has resumed operations but lacks a mobile platform. BetMGM Illinois, owner of Grand Victoria, could soon enter the market as they’ve shown quickness in launching in other states.

Will non-major sport events and global football manage to maintain some gambling interest when the major leagues return? Ultimately, only time will tell.

Shall we strive to reach a point where we can answer that question? This is a real hope.
