Bally’s Casino History

Jumer’s Casino and Hotel boasts a rich history that is deeply intertwined with Rock Island and the entirety of Chicagoland.

In the 1960s, D. James Jumer established his restaurant and hotel businesses, marking the beginning of his ventures. He then built the Peoria Boatworks Complex in 1988, which could accommodate up to 400 guests on a boat. By 1991, riverboat casinos were introduced in the Quad Cities. Within a year, D. James Jumer opened the Rock Island Boatworks, home to Casino Rock Island.

In 2008, Jumer launched a new facility and rebranded Casino Rock Island as Jumer’s Casino. The casino was then sold to Delaware North Companies, a company specializing in hospitality and food-service, in 2011. The company owns notable sporting venues including Boston’s TD Garden.

Acquisition by Bally’s

Delaware North revealed in October 2020 that they sold Jumer’s Casino and Hotel to Bally’s Corporation for $120 million. After completing regulatory procedures, the deal was finalized in June 2021. This acquisition, which officially took effect in September 2021, has brought Bally’s casino count to 14 across 10 states. They also now own a horse racetrack and hold 13 off-track betting (OTB) licenses in Colorado.

In June 2021, the Illinois Gaming Board issued a sports betting license to the facility, coinciding with its acquisition.

The CEO of Bally’s, George Papanier, stated:

We are thrilled to announce the completion of our Jumer’s acquisition, a significant move in our continuous portfolio diversification strategy, marking our entrance into the fast-expanding Illinois gaming market. This acquisition presents Bally’s with numerous promising sports betting opportunities, anticipated to boost our revenue and cash flow. We are delighted to incorporate Jumer’s into the Bally’s family and are eager to apply our expertise to improve the property’s operations.
