Danville Development LLC is scheduled to present a virtual proposal to the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) on March 10 for the development and management of a Golden Nugget Casino in Danville.

While the IGB has historically been inefficient in processing applications, it is expected that the board will reach a decision on the suitability presentation that day. The board has the ability to issue a preliminary suitability finding, which is the last step before final approval.

The statement was made by Danville’s Mayor, Rickey Williams Jr.

This suggests that Danville may have the opportunity to witness a significant event in approximately 45 to 60 days. In order to make this happen, we may need to schedule a meeting in early April or no later than the end of April. Subsequently, the start of a blackjack is expected to take place in the early months of 2023.

The game at 204 Eastgate Drive will feature a 41,500 square foot gaming arena, 500 slot machines, 14 table games, and two restaurants. Additionally, the game plans to offer live betting through the Golden Nugget online programs.

James A. Wilmot, the head of Danville Development, declared:

We at Danville Development, LLC are thrilled to share the project details with the Illinois Gaming Board. The upcoming Golden Nugget Danville Casino is eagerly awaited, and we are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities to this organization.

A protracted approach

In 2019, the Illinois Gambling Act allowed for the development of six new casinos in various locations across the state, including Danville, Chicago, Rockford, Williams County, Waukegan, and the south suburbs. Despite this, the pace of construction has been disappointingly sluggish.

Haven Gaming initially filed the casino application for Danville, but it was later rejected by the IGB due to non-compliance with Illinois laws. The application was subsequently withdrawn in July 2020.

In November 2020, Danville Development entered into a deal with the Golden Nugget and is eager to present itself to the IGB.

Williams Jr. expressed his excitement about the new development, which will bring 300 full-time jobs, as well as part-time and seasonal opportunities. The project will also provide great recreational activities for both locals and tourists.

information about Danville

Danville, the seat of Vermilion County, is home to around 30,000 residents. It is located 137 miles south of Chicago and 90 miles west of Indianapolis.

Danville’s most notable connection is with President Abraham Lincoln, who practiced law in the city for 18 years and has numerous attractions named after him.

The Vermilion County Bobcats hockey team, located in Danville, competes in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Danville rushed to secure approval for its casino project to beat out Terre Haute, Indiana, located just 55 miles away. At the same time, Terre Haute was focusing on its own gaming project, causing some controversy. In February, officials decided to relocate the project to the eastern side of the city.

Development in Chicago?

In November, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot shared her hopeful outlook on submitting a list of potential casino candidates to the IGB in early 2022. Numerous operators have submitted proposals for constructing and operating a casino in Chicago.
