The latest Illinois sports betting statistics for June have been released, showing solid numbers despite the slower summer season. The state remains a top player in the US industry, with a total handle of over $476.51 million and a hold of more than $48.18 million among its nine licensees.

FanDuel, along with its retail partner FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing, once again dominated the competition by holding over $20.29 million last month. FanDuel was also close behind the leader in total bets, DraftKings Sportsbook, falling just $1.81 million short of DraftKings’ $157.09 million in wagers.

Illinois residents see these numbers as further evidence that the gambling industry in the state is one of the most profitable in the country.

June faint has an impact, but context is crucial.

June’s month-over-month assessment showed that she struck out while swinging.

Sportsbooks collected more than $507.3 million in May, with a 6.1% decrease in handle. Despite this, revenue increased by nearly $12 million, or approximately 24%. This positive trend is likely welcomed by operators DraftKings and FanDuel.

In June, taxes amounted to $557,166, which was an increase of over $137,000.

This is significant because June is usually a challenging month for casinos in Illinois due to the sports calendar. Despite this, holding around 9.89% for the month is considered a success.

Illinois’ numbers in comparison to other active jurisdictions may be the most crucial point of context here.

In June, Illinois ranked third in the US for sports betting revenue. New Jersey sportsbooks saw over $766.88 million in bets placed, while Nevada sportsbooks recorded $545.51 million in wagers.

Illinois ranked second in revenue behind New Jersey’s $71.26 million, with FanDuel leading the way and surpassing the combined revenue of DraftKings and BetRiversSportsbook. This trend suggests a pattern emerging in the market.

Probable explanations for FanDuel’s raking it in

FanDuel has surpassed $20 million in revenue for the second month in a row in Illinois. The hold percentage for May was 12.9%, increasing by one-tenth of a point in June. This raises the question: are bettors at DraftKings more successful than those at FanDuel in Illinois?

Not necessarily. One reason is that even though there is a burdensome in-person registration requirement in Illinois for the rest of the year, it is unclear how many bettors who are losing bets at FanDuel are also placing wagers at other books.

Furthermore, FanDuel customers continue to show a strong preference for parlay wagers, particularly same-game parlays. Experienced bettors are aware that these types of bets are usually profitable for sportsbooks. As long as FanDuel can entice bettors to include more selections in their wagers, it appears to have a firm grasp on generating revenue.

With college basketball and the NFL season just around the corner, FanDuel may soon ramp up their betting options. While the payouts can be lucrative, experienced bettors in Illinois know they have a better chance of winning compared to FanDuel’s June success.
